There are no uniform week by week pregnancy symptoms that apply to every woman. Some women may experience several signs of pregnancy, while others may experience very few. In the initial weeks after conception, women will not feel differently and should not experience any symptoms.
A missed period is usually the first sign of pregnancy. Some spotting may be present as the embryo implants in the uterus, but women still do not feel differently at this point.
Doctors usually calculate the due date from the woman's last period, so the week of a missed period may be considered the fourth week of pregnancy. Early signs of pregnancy to look out for, after about the fifth week of pregnancy, include morning sickness, tingling or soreness in the breasts, darkening of the areola, frequent urination or feeling more tired than usual.
As mentioned, week by week pregnancy symptoms may vary, but after about the sixth week some women may begin to gain a few pounds, although morning sickness may actually cause some women to lose weight. After about the ninth week, the uterus continues to grow and women may notice their waist is larger. Mood swings are common around this time, and some women experience cravings, but weight gain is still minimal.
At about the eleventh week weekly pregnancy symptoms, women may notice changes to their hair, skin, fingernails or toenails. Women may begin to notice improvements in nausea and energy at the week twelve mark, but they may begin to experience headaches, dizziness and fatigue due to hormonal changes. After about the thirteenth week, women may begin to put on weight as morning sickness subsides.
After week seventeen, women may have put on 5 to 10 pounds and may be noticeably showing by now. The baby may be felt moving around week eighteen and women may have an ultrasound to determine the sex of the baby around this time.
Around the sixth month, women may gain about a pound a week. By now, women should be showing enough that virtually everybody can tell that they are pregnant. Swelling and cramps may be common during this stage of the pregnancy as the baby continues to grow. Women may begin seeing the doctor every week during the last month and may grow increasingly uncomfortable in the latter stages of their pregnancy.
